Israel's lies publicly exposed by Norway

Norway's PM embarrasses Sharon

Norway's Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik yesterday embarrassed Prime Minister Ariel Sharon when he began making demands and repeating accusations he had heard earlier by the Palestinian Authority.

The Norwegian guest asked why Israel continues to keep the East Jerusalem offices of Palestinian institutions closed, and to strengthen his argument, he pulled out a copy of the 1993 letter sent by then-foreign minister Shimon Peres to his Norwegian counterpart saying that the Palestinian institutions would be allowed to continue operating after the signing of the Oslo Accords.

Sharon, who hosted his Norwegian counterpart at a Jerusalem dinner, said: "You can read letters to me from 1993, and I can show you more letters [with promises] from the Palestinian side that were not kept. The key to any progress is quiet. If there won't be quiet, there won't be progress."

Bondevik, a devout Christian, is a longtime friend of Israel. His conversation with Sharon began with his praising Sharon, saying "only a brave man such as yourself can move the region forward." He added that Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas is determined to fight terror.

But then he complained about the separation fence, explaining that application of the absentee property law in East Jerusalem is disruptive to a Norwegian-owned hotel, whose Palestinian owner lives on the other side of the fence.

Sharon responded by saying that Israel would continue construction of the fence.

The premier's adviser, Dov Weisglass, and chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, are due to meet today to exchange reports and discuss the formation of a new joint committee for cooperation in other areas.
